Last week, I wrote a post about a new listing, the historic James City Tavern, which is a point of interest for Civil War-era historians. I’d like to call out another Civil War-themed listing, a 259 acre site that served as an encampment for soldiers during the war. Read more below, and click here for the listing.
Historic Hansborough Ridge; 259 acres of woods and open land, incredible western views over Culpeper to the Blue Ridge. The Ridge and adjacent Coles Hill are noted Civil War sites, most notably from 1863-1864 Hansborough Ridge served as the winter encampment to a force of nearly 10,000 Union Soldiers during the Army of the Potomac’s winter occupation of Culpeper County. Remains of earthworks, trenches and hut holes can still be seen on the ridge. Located in the heart of Virginia’s historic northern Piedmont area; known for its horse sports, exceptional farms and relaxed lifestyle in a beautiful environment. Conveniently close to the Washington DC/Northern Virginia Metro area, Charlottesville and Fredericksburg, VA keeping city amenities close at hand.
